CannaChews FAQs
II The basic science behind CannaChews
How much chemistry do I need to know to make an informed decision about buying CannaChews?
It's helpful to know the basic science behind CannaChews, since:
- You're concerned about your pets' vitality, well-being, and life expectancy.
- You want to do everything you can to help them feel the best they can for as long as they possibly can.
- It would be great if the treats they love actually promote health and vitality.
Should you wish to go further and explore the world's most useful plant on the molecular level, you're going to find all sorts of scholarly treatises written by academics for academics.
The question is, how much time and tolerance do you have for inscrutable diagrams full of Greek symbols, sentences the size of paragraphs, or memorizing the names of 480 chemical compounds with 8-syllable names?
We would rather provide the crucial information you need to help your pet today than attempt to inundate you with a crash course in Chemical Biology.
Assuming I'm primarily interested in maintaining a healthy, happy pet, what are the basic terms that I should be familiar with?
In a nutshell:
Psychoactive is a term which refers to any substance which produces a "high" after ingesting it.
Cannabinoids are chemicals unique to the cannabis plant. For our purposes, CBD and THC are the best-known and the most important cannabinoids.
CBD is an abbreviation for "cannabidiol," a cannabinoid with beneficial factors for maintaining health and warding off disease. The words "cannabinoid" and "cannabidiol" read and sound so much alike that they're often confused. Let's stick with "CBD" for the sake of brevity, and restate that it is one of the more intriguing and most discussed cannabinoids.
THC is the cannabinoid which has psychoactive properties; ingested in certain quantities and percentages, it produces a "high."
Terpenes are molecules not unique to the cannabis plant that interact with molecules which are to promote healing. Terpenes found in hemp are thought to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. They are not psychoactive.
Why is low-THC important?
Because #1 you want your pet to be safe. And vets don't recommend supplements that can cause unwanted side effects.
As we've seen, THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid — with all that implies.
Canna Pharmaceuticals vigilantly monitors the amount of THC that goes into our pet products so that it never exceeds the maximum legal limit.
Independent labs rigorously test the percentage of THC during every step of the manufacturing process.
On the other hand, CBD provides a potent source of beneficial botanicals with no known side effects whatsoever. And CannaChews contain therapeutic amounts of it.
Why is high-CBD so helpful?
CBD is similar to many foods, herbs, and plants that have been around in supplements for years with properties like being anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial or calming.
Often in disease states, our bodies need assistance to regulate various functions. This help has historically come from plant sources.
Plant cannabinoids like CBD hold great promise as a healthy, nontoxic agents to assist the healing process in all beings.
Unlike THC, CBD does not impair the ability to think clearly or to perform everyday physical tasks like hunting for bones or mice.
What's the differences between cannabis, hemp, marijuana, and medical marijuana?
"Cannabis" is the botanical term for both the hemp plant which will not get you high, and other strains which look very similar but do get you high. Cannabis indica is a strain which always produces a high; cannabis sativa comes in both psychoactive and non-psychoactive strains.
"Hemp" is a common term used for a non-psychoactive strain of cannabis sativa that has thousands of uses in fields as diverse as textiles, biofuels, and beauty products. It's the non-psychoactive strain of cannabis sativa used in CannaChews.
"Marijuana" and "pot" are actually slang terms for cannabis. They generally refer to psychoactive forms of cannabis, a.k.a. "recreational marijuana."
"Medical marijuana" is not a type of plant at all. It is a label that has become associated with cannabis flowers or products made from them sold in government-regulated dispensaries. Until recently, there was absolutely no chemical, botanical, or physical difference between "medical marijuana" and "marijuana." The only difference was that one was government-regulated and the other wasn't. Recently, growers have discovered that they can tweak cannabis strains to increase CBD counts. These new high-CBD strains are more likely to be found in medical marijuana dispensaries since the recreational market is focused on high-THC strains.
Why doesn't your site make a bunch of claims about CBD's "miraculous" ability to combat disease or attempt to prove how powerful it is through multimedia presentations?
Given the quickened pace of genetic engineering as legal marijuana gains traction, there can be no doubt that cannabis is the most promising botanical out there for use in supplements. We have zero reservations about using it in our products and are in fact tremendously excited about launching a division dedicated exclusively to activated products.
However, having worked closely with 8,500 veterinarians for over a decade, Cannabis Pharmaceuticals is not in the business of promising miracles.
We are in the slightly scaled-down business of substantially improving pets' lives ... which "miraculously" improves the lives of their humans.
So, sure, we could provide dozens of visually impressive animations which depict CBD molecules heroically gobbling up overmatched disease molecules.
And we could dazzle you with beautifully photographed high-resolution images of resinous terpenes protruding out from colorful colas (giant buds).
Or we could just point out:
- You don't need to be able to name all 85 cannabinoids to understand the basic science behind CannaChews.
- CannaChews are chock full of the beneficial cannabinoid CBD in the purest form we know how to produce.
- In all likelihood your pet will respond positively to cannabis therapy — just as so many other pets and humans already have.
